Glossary of terms

Ligaments are bundles of elastic fibres, which attach bones together to form a joint.

Tendons are fibrous bands, which attach muscles to bones to help move a joint.

The sacrum is a triangular bone at the base of the spine, which articulates between the pelvic bones, and the coccyx is attached to its apex.

Discs are weight-bearing pads between vertebrae made of a fibrous matrix, which house a strong nuclear sphere.
